Lake Atitlan is the most important attraction of Solola, another department two and a half hours from Quetzaltenango, without doubt the most beautiful lake in the world. Or, is it to easy to find a lake with three volcanoes around?. At the Lake Atitlan we will see Atitlan, Toliman and San Pedro volcano being the highest Atitlan volcano with 3537 over sea level. Who dares to climb it?
One of the hegs features of this wonderful lake is the “Xocomil” effect which is wind that runs around the lake and surroundings. The people and ancestors say that this strong wind passes in order to collect and clean up the lake from all sins.

The birth of a volcano or a weather phenomenon are theories as to why a city called “Samabaj” from pre Classical period submerged came under Lake Atitlan, Solola, according to studies this metropolis was located on a hill and was covered by water. This city is submerged 36 meters deep and it found seven residues of housing groups and ceremonial buildings, it has 5 stone piers, a set of steam, a pyramid of two bodies and a trail.
Is not necessary to have more reasons to visit this beautiful nature paradise!
