The Tuj or Temazcal in Mayan culture is a steam bath that takes place in a small “cave” after the regular mind mud house as hygienic and therapeutic resource. Temazcal comes from two Nahuatl words Temaz (bathroom) Calli (house) so we can describe the temazcal as a “bath house”. This represents the womb of mother earth and the four elements of the universe (water, air, fire and earth).

The Mayan ancestors celebrated the bath Tuj as a purification ritual, the ancestors remains are found in black stones in Guatemala. Tuj or temazcal is a deep experience, in other words, a mystical experience. It is a place where we connect with our being through the heat that clean and healthy our body and soul through aromatic and medicinal plants that accompany this delicious bath. Used by our ancestors to alleviate stress or simply to rest, relax and give yourself some quality time and heal your spirit through introspection.

Here in Guatemala we continue with the beginning of Natural Medicine, as part of the health habits of the Pre-Columbian peoples of Mesoamerica.
